Fixer Upper Transformations

Everyone loves a good transformation, right? That feel-good moment when you can look back to see how far you've come. In six years, we've made lots of progress, but still have much more to go. Here's a recap of my favorite before and after glow-ups. I'll be sure to share more about each space soon!

DECK RENOVATION

This deck was a massive project so we broke it up into two phases over the course of two years. At nearly 1,000 square feet and 12 feet off the ground, this was a challenging project. We rebuilt out of composite material for long-term performance.

POWDER ROOM RENOVATION

This is the main bath in the home that all of our guests use so I knew we had to upgrade. From brick flooring to color drenched green details, I'd say mission accomplished. Read my blog with FAQs on this DIY here.

KITCHEN RENOVATION

The heart of the home. This is the place where everyone gathers and since my husband loves to cook, it was our goal to maximize function in this otherwise small space. The footprint remained similar to utilize existing plumbing, electrical and gas locations, but we upgraded the countertops and backsplash and modernized the cabinets while incorporating open shelves.

WET BAR RENOVATION

This corner was a little awkward because it was not level with the living room so we raised the subfloor, replaced the cabinets/countertop, added a fresh can of paint and we were off to the races.

LIVING ROOM

In the 80s, a sunken living room indicated importance of a room or space and since the living room was key for entertaining, an elevation change here signified importance. I was team keep the inset, but we ended up raising the floor.

FIREPLACE RENOVATION

Don't get me wrong, I love a natural stone fireplace, but this was too dark for our liking so I painted it white. We love how it turned out and we're happy with the reclaimed wood mantel that stands out against the lighter stone. Next up is to fix the fireplace from the inside out so it actually works and is more than just looks. Check out my blog post here for more details.

DINING ROOM TURNED SITTING AREA

This space was a formal dining room when we purchased the home. We maintained that function for a bit, but are much happier with a sitting area that we can use more often.

GIRL'S BEDROOM

My daughter loves everything pink so I knew exactly how to design the princess room of her dreams, complete with bunkbed and canopy.

BOY'S BEDROOM

A big Atlanta Braves fan, we went with a baseball theme in my son's room and incorporated the front page article from their 2021 World Series win.

KID'S BATHROOM

This full bath had good bones, but was a bit dated and bland so we upgraded everything down to the plumbing. The custom built-in millwork was exceptional and unique so we kept them and applied paint while retrofitting the rest.

LAUNDRY ROOM

This small space doubles as a mud room with an exterior entry so we added durable brick flooring and a fresh coat of paint after the cast iron pipes failed and flooded the room.

OFFICE RENOVATION

This bonus room became our home office during Covid and we've never looked back. Located in the basement, it's away from the chaos where we can focus.

PRIMARY BEDROOM

We have bigger plans for this space, but a budget paint and light fixture upgrade helped to transform this room in the interim.

BASEMENT RENOVATION

This large space has lots of potential, but a quick and low cost upgrade allowed it to temporarily become the kid's playroom. Big things on the horizon for this space that's currently under renovation. . .

MORE COMING SOON!

We have so many more projects on the agenda with a full basement renovation nearly halfway through and can't wait to share more soon!

Thank you! I wish I could link them, but Pottery Barn no longer carries. Hopefully you can find a similar option!

[ Hi! I’m Shelby ] Tired mom of 2 renovating our fixer. Account Exec. by day, homebody by night, where I conjure up what my husband thinks are too many projects. I tackle as much as I can myself, but I’m also not afraid to ask for help when the task is too large.
